By idaflo | May 10th, 2010 | View Comments

What started out as a day when a family was celebrating Mothers Day, became a nightmare come to life in Texas as a  fake census worker, in fact a GROUP of them,  invaded a home, to torture and kill a resident....they then ransacked the house for TWO HOURS. This was a humble home in a very modest neighborhood. Report includes VIDEO with family and neighbors’ interviews.  The senseless killing showed a complete absence of conscience on the part of the attackers.

Women and Blogging

By idaflo | May 8th, 2010 | View Comments

On launching a blog….am determined to be “tough for truth”, not in my approach, or even in what I post necessarily, (I just wanna post what I wanna post…) but since my conservatism is evident – regarding the potential for negative feedback. In the following article, Clouthier is right, it comes with the territory;  have already experienced it a bit via other online blogs etc… Folks get nasty.

Though the attacks ARE personal, it’s a mistake to take them personally because ultimately, snarky comments say more about the source than they do the target. I glean what insight can be harvested from the experience, trusting Christ to provide comfort. It’s not my fault their moms failed to teach them good manners….(they LOVE that response by the way).

There are not enough conservative Lutheran women sticking necks out, but “the brotherhood of the sisters” in the political and theologically liberal ELCA or the Democrat Party for example, require conservative WOMEN counterparts.  Lord knows Liberal women get coddled enough, it’s ALWAYS time to provide some contrast, EVEN in public.

Why There Are Fewer Women Bloggers

At Western CPAC there were a row of blogging men with two notable exceptions: Rachel Alexander of Intellectual Conservative and me. Proportionally in political blogging and in blogging generally, there just aren’t as many women bloggers. David Griner of The Social Path asks why:

If you spend any time looking at social media demographics, there’s one stat you see over and over: women dominate the space. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter — all are more popular with women than men.

So it was a bit jarring this week to see that 67% of bloggers are male, according to the newest installment of the Technorati State of the Blogosphere report. Read More »

11 Most Annoying Catchphrases – (oops!)

By idaflo | May 7th, 2010 | View Comments

Guilty as charged, and because it can be fun (honest!) to insert cliches, will most likely be guilty again in the future.
But this is humorous stuff anyway – and serious or funny, I love what is posted in the comments section at First Things.

[Note: Every Friday on First Thoughts we host a discussion about some aspect of pop culture. Today’s theme is annoying catchphrases. Have a suggestion for a topic? Send them to me at jcarter@firstthings.com.]

A couple of years ago, researchers at Oxford University compiled a list of the top ten most irritating expressions. Their list included overused office lingo, (24/7, synergy), grammatically incorrect constructions (“shouldn’t of”), and adverbs used out of context (literally, ironically).

While everything on their list is certainly irritating, few of the items rise to the level of truly annoying. Perhaps Americans have a particular facility with our shared language because we seem to have a special affinity for creating trite catchphrases. Here are my eleven candidates for most annoying sayings:

1. “I’m not a happy camper.”…(continue reading here)

Cruelty is, perhaps, the worst kid of sin. Intellectual cruelty is certainly the worst kind of cruelty.

Conservatism in Motion

By idaflo | May 6th, 2010 | View Comments

Just one more place on the internet to include this bit of information.  These folks are intelligent, informed, committed and will be around and active LONG after November.  This is not a movement propelled by fads, but one grounded in deep conviction. This is a groundswell that will leave its imprint on the course of history.

Who am I watching most closely?  That would be  HERMAN CAIN in 2012.

NYT discovers record number of black Republicans running for Congress (From HotAir)

posted at 11:36 am on May 5, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

For the past year, the national media has attempted to paint the Tea Party movement and opposition to the Democratic agenda as based in racism, a reaction to the election of the first African-American President in November 2008.  As the New York Times discovers, the reality of the opposition makes that very difficult to believe.  Republicans have fielded a record number of African-American candidates for Congress, most or all of which have entered those contests with enthusiastic Tea Party support.  And for that, the candidates credit … Barack Obama?….(article continues here)
